Burando Energies has reached a new benchmark in sustainable marine fuel bunkering by successfully supplying B100 Straight Run Fame Residue to multiple Teekay Tankers vessels operating across the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp (ARA) region.

The delivery follows an earlier collaboration this year in Amsterdam, where Burando supplied Teekay with  30% FAME Residue/VLSFO blends, a key pilot proving once again the operational viability of waste-based marine fuels. With the transition to full-volume, second-generation biofuel, the companies have now progressed from exploration to execution, at commercial scale.

“This isn’t just a fuel delivery, it’s a signal of what’s now possible,” said Nick de Haan, Head of Decarbonisation Strategies at Burando Energies.
“We’ve moved from testing to full operational deployment of FAME Residues as sustainable fuels, delivered with full ISCC certification, full traceability, and without compromising vessel performance. This is the kind of progress the industry needs and it’s happening today.”

From Pilot to Scalable Deployment

The FAME Residue supplied by Burando is a second-generation biofuel derived exclusively from waste oils and residual feedstocks. Fully compliant with the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) framework, it offers a lower-emission, cost-effective alternative to conventional fossil fuels and can be used as a drop-in replacement in modern marine engines.

The ability to move from a blended pilot to a 100% sustainable marine fuel delivery within a few months showcases both the technical compatibility and commercial readiness of advanced renewable fuels in long-haul shipping.

“At Teekay, we don’t believe in theoretical decarbonisation, we believe in what works,” said Mads Bjornebye, Manager Bunker Services at Teekay Tankers.
“Burando’s ability to deliver certified, operationally proven biofuel, at volume, has allowed us to take real steps forward. We’re not just exploring options; we’re implementing solutions that align with both our environmental goals and our commercial standards.”

Driving Real-World Impact

The delivery underscores Burando’s strategic focus on accelerating the maritime energy transition through innovative fuel sourcing, certified products, and scalable implementation. As regulatory and market pressure on carbon emissions intensifies, shipowners are increasingly seeking practical pathways to decarbonize, without jeopardizing efficiency, cost control, or compliance.

Burando Energies is rapidly positioning itself as a key enabler of that transition.

“This project exemplifies the kind of partnership needed to decarbonize at sea,” added Nick de Haan.
“We’re not just talking about the future of shipping, we’re helping to fuel it.”
